Spring Choir Practice Videos

The Grade One and Two students in the Spring Choir have been working hard to prepare a few songs for this year’s Volunteer Tea at Royal Oak School on Friday, May 26th at 10:00am.  They are sounding wonderful, and are eager to share their music!

All parents/guardians of choir members are welcome to join us for the performance at the Volunteer Tea.  If you are planning to attend the event, please fill out the RSVP form that was previously sent home with the oldest/only child of each family.

As well, we are asking that students wear black (or dark) bottoms and white (or light colored) tops on this day.

If you would like to practice our songs, please sing along to the videos below!

Another Fantastical Instrument

What do you get when you mix the magic of music with a hefty dose of imagination?  Another fantastical instrument, of course!  Created by the same artists that brought you the imaginary string instrument (see my blog post on February 12, 2017), this percussion machine imitates the workings of real percussion instruments with the help of a volley of musical bouncing balls.
CLICK HERE to watch the video.

As you enjoy the video to the right, see if you can find parts of the machine that work like:

    -the hammers inside the piano
    -cymbals
    -xylophones
    -drums
    -tubular bells

Also, if you listen closely, you'll also hear the unique sound made by each of these instruments as the balls strike each part of the machine.

After watching this animated musical instrument, you may be inspired to make your own percussion machine.

Be sure to check out this musician's invention, which makes music with the help of 2000 marbles!

Music Monday Messages from the Governor General and the Prime Minister

Sing!
                          Dance!
                                                        Play!

The gym was full of joyful music this morning as the Royal Oak School community celebrated Music Monday together!  We opened with a massive line dance to Paul Brandt's Alberta Bound, then each grade group shared their own special song.  And then everyone -students, families and staff - stood together to sing the traditional song, Siyahamba, moving as a united community to march in the light of peace, hope and love!  As we shared our music, we were also sharing our pride, our energy and our happiness, building and strengthening relationships old and new.  What a wonderful way to start our week!

Both our Prime Minister and our Governor General have sent messages of warm wishes and encouragement on this day of celebration.  Click on the images below to read what the leaders of our nation have to say about Music Monday!
