Guitars at Royal Oak School!

On March 22, the Grade One students enjoyed a visit from one of our parents, Erik Mendoza, and Mauricio Moreno, the lead guitarist of the group Los Morenos.

These wonderful musicians brought their guitars - and their love of music - to Royal Oak School, and made our Learning Commons vibrate with so much energy that the students couldn't help but get up and dance!

They told us a little about how the instruments make sound, and a little about their lives as musicians.  After listening to the beautiful songs, we were surprised to learn that Mauricio had taught himself how to play.  He explained that he just tried different sounds until he found the ones that felt good in his heart.

It was a great reminder that we can all be musicians by playing or singing or dancing in our own way.  It just takes practice and patience and a commitment to the music.  Click on the video below to enjoy a bit of inspiration for your own musical journey!
